According to a Tech.eu report, the UK's technology sector attracted €18.7 billion across 423 deals in the first half of 2026, affirming its status as Europe's largest technology funding market. This strong performance underscores continued investor confidence in British tech ventures, even as capital becomes increasingly concentrated within a limited number of companies.
The sustained investment in the UK market comes as European initiatives aim to bolster the continent's overall tech landscape and address funding gaps. Projects like Connect2Scale are actively working to unite European investors and scale-ups, fostering cross-border investment opportunities and facilitating knowledge transfer from venture capital firms to business angels. This effort seeks to close the gap between funding cycles and introduce harmonized investment approaches across the EU.
Similarly, VENTURES THRIVE addresses barriers faced by European startups when scaling, particularly in deeptech, where lengthy development times make investment risky. This project focuses on supporting ventures in Widening Countries, aiming to translate laboratory performance into thriving commercial ventures through business coaching, mentoring, and research exploitation. The broader goal is to overcome the cultural, legal, and economic fragmentation that often impedes startup growth across the European market.
Further supporting the growth of European tech, the EIC Scaling Club is dedicated to nurturing Europe's tech success stories. It brings together 100 selected European deep-tech scale-ups with investors and stakeholders to develop market opportunities. Such initiatives are crucial for building a cohesive and competitive European tech ecosystem, ensuring that investment flows not just into established hubs but also into promising ventures across the continent.
What this means: The UK's consistent lead in tech funding indicates a robust domestic market, but also highlights the ongoing efforts needed at a European level to distribute investment more broadly and enable scale-ups across diverse regions and sectors to thrive.
