Nebex has launched a €100 million initiative aimed at transforming global space expenditure into revenue for French startups. This public-private partnership is designed to accelerate the commercialisation of space technology within the European sector. The announcement, reported by Nebex launches €100M initiative to turn global space spending into revenue for French startups on August 17, 2026, highlights a strategic move to bolster France's position in the burgeoning space economy.

The programme's objective is to foster innovation and growth among French space entrepreneurs by providing crucial funding and support. This effort builds on existing European initiatives focused on advancing space technology and its applications. For instance, the WomenTech-EO_AI project, involving French deep-tech company SpaceSense, has been working to democratise access to Earth observation data for machine learning applications since 2019, showcasing France's capabilities in the Space-AI domain.

Further demonstrating the drive for space commercialisation, the SATAGILITY-GO2MARKET project, which concluded in October 2023, focused on bringing to market an innovative control moment gyroscope actuator developed by VEOWARE SPACE. This technology significantly enhances the agility of small satellites, thereby boosting their effectiveness for various missions. Such advancements are critical for generating new revenue streams in the space sector.

Moreover, the broader European Space Programme already recognises the vast potential for SMEs in the green and digital transitions. The ongoing FIERCE project aims to mobilise 140 SMEs, startups, and scale-ups with technical and business advisory services. This support helps them design business solutions using downstream space data for areas like circularity, raw materials, and environmental monitoring, aligning with the goal of unlocking green and digital transformations through space-enabled solutions. Nebex's new fund will likely complement these efforts by directly channelling investment into commercial ventures.

What this means: This €100 million fund represents a significant push to convert theoretical space potential into tangible economic returns for French startups, strengthening the European space technology ecosystem through focused commercialisation and innovation.
