EU Commission to lead design of electricity supergrid

European Union member state capitals have agreed to assign the European Commission a central role in designing the continent's electricity supergrid. Another crucial area is the integration of diverse power systems. The HYNET project focuses on developing pan-European interoperable AC-DC hybrid electricity networks. This is essential given the growing deployment of distributed energy resources and the renewed interest in direct current (DC) power transmission for efficiency and resilience. Furthermore, the DSO4DT project is accelerating the uptake of Digital Twins for the European electricity grid, which will be instrumental in managing the complexity and ensuring the reliability of an advanced supergrid through digitalisation.
