UK-based AI and robotics firm Humanoid has secured $152 million in Series A funding, pushing its post-money valuation to $1.35 billion. The company specialises in industrial humanoid robots, indicating robust investor interest in advanced automation technologies. This significant investment reflects a growing market for sophisticated robotic solutions designed for industrial applications.

The broader robotics sector continues to attract substantial investment, with a focus on enhancing industrial productivity and operational security. Projects such as RIS, which aims to revolutionise industrial robotics with an AI-powered security platform, demonstrate ongoing efforts to secure these advanced systems. RIS addresses vulnerabilities in industrial robots like manipulators and AGVs, building an integrated Endpoint Protection Platform based on bio-inspired AI. Its goal is to adapt to novel security threats by examining interactions at the robot level for anomalies.

Further innovation in the sector includes foundational mechanical components. The Archimedes Drive project, for example, has developed a proprietary speed reducer based on smooth, rolling contact by cylinders. This technology aims to solve performance issues and high manufacturing costs associated with existing gear-based speed reducers, particularly for industrial robotics. The Archimedes Drive targets the industrial robotics market, seeking to provide ultra-precise, robust, and lightweight components.

The application of AI in robotics also extends to specialised inspection tasks. The Autonomous Dog Robot project focuses on four-legged autonomous robots for industrial inspections, monitoring, and surveillance. Its Keyper robot autonomously monitors facilities, detects gas leaks, hotspots, and intruders, sending real-time alarms. This shows a diverse range of AI and robotics applications, from humanoid industrial workers to mobile inspection units.

What this means: The substantial valuation achieved by Humanoid underscores increasing market demand for advanced industrial automation. This trend is supported by parallel developments in robot security, mechanical innovation, and specialised inspection robotics, all pointing to a maturing and expanding AI and robotics landscape.
