Mistral secured a €3 billion Series D funding round this week. This significant investment is part of over €3.9 billion in European tech funding deals tracked in the past week, as reported by Tech.eu. The substantial capital deployment reflects ongoing activity at later stages of venture capital.

The artificial intelligence sector continues to attract considerable attention and investment. European research initiatives provide foundational work in this domain. For instance, the Control-LM project, funded under HORIZON, aims to understand and develop mechanisms to intervene with and repair large language models (LMs), addressing issues like biased behavior and flawed reasoning. Another HORIZON-funded project, LLMinPeerProduction, explores the impact of generative AI technologies, specifically large language models, on engagement within online peer production communities such as Wikipedia and GitHub.

Further demonstrating the strategic focus on AI in Europe, the AIS25 project is dedicated to organising the AI in Science Conference 2025. This event seeks to accelerate the uptake of AI in science and build a community around the European AI in Science Strategy.

What this means: The significant Series D round for Mistral, alongside broader funding trends and ongoing research projects, highlights sustained investor confidence and strategic European commitment to advancing AI capabilities and applications.
