European quantum computing companies are demonstrating strong market traction. Quantum Systems recently secured $1.2 billion in funding, while IQM became the first European quantum company to list on a major US stock exchange. These developments signal a robust growth trajectory for the European deeptech ecosystem, particularly in advanced computing, drawing substantial venture capital and expanding market presence.

This growth is supported by collaborative European initiatives. The Qu-Pilot project, involving 21 partners from nine countries, is developing and providing access to the first federated European fabrication capabilities for quantum technologies. This initiative is crucial for implementing the initial stage of an innovation roadmap for experimental production and subsequently transferring these capabilities to an industrial production environment.

Further strengthening the ecosystem, the CRYOFAST project addresses a critical gap in access to professional testing and characterisation services for quantum technology. Utilising state-of-the-art low-temperature characterisation, CRYOFAST aims to offer rapid, precise, and affordable testing for sensitive quantum devices, democratising cryogenic measurements across the sector.

Ambitious hardware development is also underway through projects like QLSI2. This initiative brings together 23 partners from nine countries with the goal of demonstrating a cloud-accessible 200-qubit semiconductor-based quantum computer by the end of 2027. QLSI2 leverages key European expertise from research organisations, academic laboratories, startups, and large companies in complementary fields of quantum technologies.

What this means: The significant investment and market expansion for European quantum companies, supported by strategic collaborative projects, indicate a maturing and highly competitive advanced computing sector poised for further innovation and industrial application.
