Danish AI startup Velatir has secured €5 million in seed funding to expand its AI infrastructure platform across Europe. The capital will also support the growth of its operational team, with a specific focus on enhancing cybersecurity within AI applications. This investment highlights a continued European drive to bolster AI capabilities and secure digital infrastructure.
The European High Performance Computing (EuroHPC) Joint Undertaking, for instance, funds initiatives like AI-AT, a national initiative aimed at strengthening Austria's AI ecosystem through state-of-the-art supercomputing infrastructure and support services for powerful, secure AI applications. Similarly, the IT4LIA project is establishing an AI Factory in Italy, leveraging EUROHPC assets to foster a more competitive AI ecosystem within Italy and the broader EU. These efforts contribute to a Europe-wide visible AI ecosystem.
Beyond dedicated AI factories, other projects are advancing AI's role in critical infrastructure. The FOURIER project, for example, is developing innovative AI methodologies for monitoring and maintaining large-scale complex infrastructures, aiming for greener, more resilient societies through autonomous inspection and health monitoring. This reflects a broader trend towards integrating AI into foundational systems for enhanced performance and resilience.
In a related development, Swedish deeptech company Solinide Photonics recently secured €4 million in seed funding to commercialise its silicon nitride photonic integrated circuit technology for AI data centres, as reported in the Solinide closes €4M to commercialise photonic chips for AI data centres signal. This demonstrates ongoing investment in the core components that underpin advanced AI infrastructure.
What this means: Velatir's funding aligns with Europe's strategic investments in robust and secure AI infrastructure. This includes national AI factories, advanced monitoring systems, and foundational hardware, all contributing to a more competitive and resilient digital economy.
