Perceptron closed a $6.5 million strategic funding round to develop its decentralised AI data network. The investment drew support from Web3 investors, trading firms, and ecosystem partners, highlighting growing interest in blockchain-based solutions for artificial intelligence. This funding aims to address critical challenges in data privacy and ownership within AI infrastructure, aligning with the broader push for more secure and transparent data ecosystems.
The European Union has actively supported initiatives in this domain, recognising the importance of secure and decentralised data management. The SEDIMARK project, for instance, is building a secure, trusted, and intelligent decentralised data and services marketplace. This project leverages distributed ledger technologies and artificial intelligence to provide guarantees about data quality and facilitate trusted data sharing, moving away from centralised models. Similarly, the ODELIA project, an Open Consortium for Decentralized Medical Artificial Intelligence, is developing innovative swarm learning approaches. This methodology enables partners to jointly train AI models using extensive datasets while circumventing severe practical, ethical, and legal obstacles associated with centralised data collection. Such decentralised approaches are crucial for maintaining data privacy and ensuring ethical compliance, particularly in sensitive sectors. The investment in Perceptron further underscores the market's recognition of decentralised approaches as vital for the future of AI, reflecting a global trend towards more robust and privacy-preserving data solutions.
What this means: This funding round signals increasing momentum for Web3 and blockchain-based solutions in AI infrastructure, particularly in addressing data privacy, ownership, and secure data sharing, indicating a strategic shift towards more resilient and ethical AI development.
